What do many years of award-winning experience directing photography and illustration mean in the world of AI? I create super cool, unique imagery that is art directed and client appropriate. The world of Midjourney can mean unlimited possibilities, but those possibilities can go south if you don’t have the right sensibilities guiding them. Why did I create a special section on my site? Because I now have a super power to create a range of visual directions for any project.
DDN is the AI Data Intelligence Platform that powers the world’s largest AI infrastructure. With AI as a core focus of their brief, this created an opportunity to put AI generated visuals on center stage. Given we had a very tight timeline to nail a concept, we showed a range of strikingly different ideas and visual directions. I leveraged Midjourney to create imagery custom to the details in our brief, whether it was categorical to their client stories or to the ideas themselves. The results were artful and cool.
See the rest of the workBarb Gustafson from Paul Mathew Vineyards reached out to see if I could create a hero image and poster for a Sonoma County fundraiser. Her brief: a beret wearing table guest with all the ingredients + wine, with circling beans, pork, duck, baguette, wine, and possibly the Eiffel Tower. And can it relate to the Russian River? I designed the poster, helped name the event “C’est Cassoulet”, and provided a series of images. The styles included a range from vintage French style to late ‘70s French modern.
I created the new logo and graphic identity of Cleaner California Coast, an affiliate of Leave No Trace. They needed to revamp the work in the fall to include new imagery that reflected the time of year, as well as scenarios of people having picnics and walking their dog to relate to their principles. With no budget or time for a photographer, I created images that escape the AI-generated look through the back-lit look of the late fall sun.
See the branding workDuane Hibbard reached out to me to create a hero single release artwork for. Spotify, iTunes, YouTube, etc. He wanted something that felt like a 70s movie poster and related to the song lyrics: love, betrayal/violence, running from the law, and a desert road. I created the typography in Midjourney as well, compositing the final image in Photoshop.
I worked with Rimini Street on several different ad campaigns that also included ebooks and landing pages. For one of the campaigns, the clients wanted to use business metaphors to poke at the competition. To push beyond what typical stock site offerings, I created new a bunch of new images based on specific pain points in the brief.
For another client, the brief was to create a new 3D world, and explore it in a couple of iterations. The final looks included a world of retro robots, and another with slightly more realistic towns and people. Whatever the result, I want to dig into this world more and make a movie.
For a concept about autonomous vehicles, I created several visual directions. One direction featured realistic, retro futuristic, 3D vehicles, and the other more Waymo-ish vehicles in abstract cityscapes.
